Barnasáttmálinn í Eldflauginni: Réttindagangan

Þann 17.nóvember síðast liðinn fór Eldflaugin ásamt fimm öðrum frístundaheimilum Tjarnarinnar með öll börnin úr 2.bekk í Réttindagöngu frá Skólavörðuholti að Ráðhúsinu með viðkomu í Alþingishúsinu. Réttindagangan var endir á sameiginlegri Barnasáttmálaviku alls barnastarfs Tjarnarinnar. Í vikunni var farið yfir inntak barnasáttmála Sameinuðu þjóðanna, börnin kynnt fyrir réttindi barna og muninn á réttindum og forréttindum.

Eldflaugin gaf öllum börnum í 2.bekk bangsa sem þau síðan hugsuðu um í vikunni og gættu réttinda þeirra. Þeir fengu meðal annars nafn, föt, mat, húsnæði og spítala (læknisaðtsoð), ásamt fleiru sem bangsar eiga rétt á.  Það var gaman að sjá að það voru ekki einungis börnin í 2.bekk sem hugsuðu um réttindi bangsanna, börnin í 1.bekk voru dugleg að hjálpa til við að sjá um bangsanna, enda þarf þorp til að ala upp bangsa.

Eldri börnin tóku einnig þátt í undirbúningi fyrir Réttindagönguna. Þau bjuggu meðal annars til réttinda-ofurhetjur í grímugerð sem hafa það að markmiði að gæta réttinda barna um allan heim. Einnig voru þau búin að útbúa skilti fyrir börnin í 2.bekk til að taka með í gönguna. Gangan gekk vonum framar; forseti alþingis tók á móti áskorun barnanna til stjórnvalda og borgarritarinn Stefán Eiríksson tók á móti hópnum í Ráðhúsinu, ásamt góðum gesti, töframanninum Jóni Víðis.

Börnin voru hæst ánægð með daginn og lærðu margt um réttindi barna og hvaða áhrif börn geta haft þegar þau taka sig saman.

On the 17^th of November Eldflaugin, along with five other after-school programs from Tjörnin went on a Children’s Rights March with all the children from 2^nd grade. The march went from Skólavörðuholt to City hall with a small stop at parliament.  The Children’s Rights March was the end of a mutual Children’s Rights Week in where the whole Child division of Tjörnin took part. That week the children were introduced to the content of the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child as well as the difference between rights and privilege.

Eldflaugin gave all the children from 2^nd grade teddy bears which they cared for and upheld the rights for, during the week. They received names, clothes, food, homes and a hospital (access to a doctor) among other things that every teddy bear has a right to. It was enjoyable to see that it was not only the children from 2^nd grade who took part in caring for the teddy bears, the children from 1^st grade were also very helpful in caring for the teddy bears; after all it takes a village to raise a teddy bear.

The older children also took part in the preparations for the Children’s Rights March. They made Children’s – rights superheroes who guard children’s rights all over the world. They also prepared signs for the children in 2^nd grade to bring to the march. The march was very successful, the Speaker of the Alþingi accepted the children’s appeal to authorities and the city’s chief executive officer greeted the children at City hall, along with the magician Jón Víðis.

The children were very happy at the end of the day and learned a great deal about children’s rights and the impression children can make when they stand together.
